QS273 Hub Motor Cooling

Is your QS273 hub motor overheating? HubSink is a bolt on aluminium heat sink for hub motors. It adds cooling fins to the motor shell so heat gets out of the motor faster, letting your motor handle more power for longer and climb hills without cooking itself.

Guaranteed: your motor will handle at least double the power from your controller without overheating, or stop overheating at your normal power, or your money back within 30 days. See the guarantee. In practice, riders regularly run around five times the power, shown by reviews and testing such as 18kW through a QS205 hub motor, because in real riding faster cooling compounds.

Why QS273 hub motors overheat

The QS273 is a large, very high power hub motor, which makes heat even more of a limit. A hub motor is a sealed shell, so the heat made in the stator has nowhere to go except through the casing. On long climbs or at high current the motor heats up faster than it can cool down, and the controller cuts power or the motor gets damaged. How HubSink cools your QS273

  • Around 200% better overall heat dissipation from the motor shell
  • Six aluminium pieces that fit between the spoke flanges
  • Installs in 5 to 10 minutes
  • Tested on bikes from 1kW up to 22,000W, including race winning bikes
  • Designed in Australia

QS273 beta fitting notes

The QS273 HubSinks are in experimental stages but are working well on some very high powered builds. The pieces will have a gap in the centre of the arch which you need to push out. See the QS273 installation notes.

Pair it with Statorade

Statorade ferrofluid is injected inside the motor. It more than doubles how easily heat moves from the stator to the motor shell, and HubSink then pulls that heat out of the shell. Together they give the biggest drop in motor temperature. Shop Statorade

QS273 hub motor cooling FAQ

Will HubSink fit my QS273 hub motor?

Yes. Choose the QS273 beta option when you order. The QS273 version is a beta and needs the arch pushed down in the centre to match your motor. If you are unsure, see our installation guide or contact us before you order.

Will HubSink let my QS273 run more power?

HubSink does not add power by itself. Your controller and battery supply the power. HubSink with Statorade lets the motor shed heat faster, so the motor can handle more power from your controller without overheating. Most riders turn their controllers up to more than double the power, and many regularly run around five times the power, because in real riding faster cooling compounds.

Do I need Statorade as well?

HubSink works much more effectively with Statorade ferrofluid, which goes inside the motor and helps heat move from the stator to the shell. HubSink then pulls that heat out of the shell. The guarantee is for HubSink fitted with Statorade.

How do I install it?

Install is done between the spokes with the included nuts and bolts, thermal paste and two 8mm spanners. Follow the step by step installation guide.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. Your motor will handle at least double the power from your controller without overheating, or it will stop overheating at your normal power, or you get a full refund within 30 days. See the guarantee for conditions.
